Chelsea and Inter Milan may go for swap deal involving their midfielders.
It looks like Christian Eriksen‘s stay at Inter Milan could be coming to an end very soon as there have been rumors that the misfiring Danish player could be involved in a swap deal with Chelsea’s Jorginho. The 28 year old was supposed to be Antonio Conte’s prized player, the star boy of Inter but it was anything but that. He consistently performed poorly and after another lackluster performance against Juventus in the Coppa Italia Quarter Finals, it maybe time for him to find another club for himself and start all over.
Inter is currently a project going through a lot of changes, they are finally in a position to challenge for trophies again and they even went to the finals of the UEFA Europa League last season. However, the club board is not sure whether Conte is the right man for the project. Conte is a very outspoken man and he has been in controversies a few times and their exit from the Coppa Italia puts his job under further pressure. Should he be replaced, Maurizio Sarri seems like a likely candidate and he will definitely try to bring in his star player, Jorginho.
However, that will not be a problem as according to Calciomercato, there have already been talks between Chelsea and the Italian giants about a possible swap between the out of form Eriksen and Jorginho. The Italian midfielder fell down the pecking order during Frank Lampard‘s reign but is finally getting more game time under Thomas Tuchel. However, if given a chance to reunite with Sarri, he might take that offer.
It would be a good move for both the clubs as well. Eriksen has hardly performed for Inter and the club wants to move him along and replace him with someone new. Jorginho will bring that new energy to the club and his experience at Napoli will definitely help him. On the other hand, Chelsea will gain a younger player who has experience in playing at one of the top clubs in the Premier League plus the Blues are looking to get at least 15-20 million euros along with Eriksen as the value Jorginho at a higher price than the Danish.
At the end of the day, negotiations are still at a very early stage and it is too soon to predict anything. We must wait and see how Inter copes in the League and that will give a more clear picture as to whether the deal will go through or not.
