David De Gea has been an excellent servant for Manchester United over the years. The Spaniard is undoubtedly United’s best player of the decade and has saved the side so many times over the years. However, according to reports by Goal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has issued a warning that the Spaniard’s past glories will count for nothing if his form does not improve. David De Gea made a mistake against Everton in the Premier League and led Abdoulaye Doucoure opened the scoring for the Toffees.
The Manchester United number one has won the Sir Matt Busby player of the season awards more than any player in the history of the club. De Gea has the most the number of Premier League team of the year appearances among the goalkeepers in the history of the Premier League. The Spaniard won the golden gloves in 2017/18 season. However, his past performances will count for nothing if the current form does not improve.
Boss Solskjaer has options to replace De Gea if the player’s form does not improve. English goalkeeper and academy graduate Dean Henderson was one of the best goalkeepers in the league last season. Henderson’s opportunities has been limited this season but the keeper has performed whenever he was played. Apart from the mistake against his former club Sheffield United earlier this season, Dean’s been good this season and it should be a constant reminder that the number one spot cannot be taken for granted.
David De Gea started this season strong and was awarded the man of the match against Paris Saint-Germain followed by a clean sheet against RB Leipzig. The Spain international has kept 152 clean sheets for Manchester United in 10 years and only Peter Schmeichel has more clean sheets for the club. Manchester United’s title challenge depends a lot on their number one’s form.
