Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Tottenham Hotspur‘s Jose Mourinho were always known as arch-rivals. Ever since their tenure at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively, they were considered to be absolute enemies. However, in Guardiola’s recent interview he has stated that he has a very good relationship with Jose. Ahead of Sundays’ clash between the two in the Premier League, in Pep’s pre-game conference he has said absolutely nothing but nice things about the Spurs coach.
Both Pep and Jose were painted as absolutely top-notch rivals by the media during their time in Spain. The media delivered similar stories on the duo when Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City and Jose Mourinho joined rivals Manchester United. The Portuguese was eventually sacked by the Glazers, but he then made it back to the league as he is now the coach of Tottenham. The City coach failed to beat Mourinho away for the last two times but managed to do it this time in a comfortable 3-0 victory.
How much ever the media has tried to paint stories on Pep and Jose about their sworn enmity, the two seem to be great friends. The former Madrid coach had revealed that Guardiola had called him up when his father passed in 2017. Jose also stated that he called Guardiola when Pep’s mother had passed away in 2020 after catching the coronavirus. Pep has also stated that he had a good relationship with Jose ever since their time together at Barcelona when the two were very young and starting off as managers.
