The previous Sunday started with a mouth-watering fixture between Manchester City and the defending champion, Liverpool. As the trend has been over the past few years, a neutral would normally expect a competitive match with occasional flares rising. But the game turned out to be completely contrary to what one would expect. City cruised to a 4-1 win courtesy of a brace from Ilkay Gundogan and goals from Sterling and Phil Foden.
Considering Liverpool’s poor run of form many of the fans might have seen a close defeat coming but to be blown away like this; the fans were left thinking of what went wrong. After some days on Saturday, they faced ex-manager Brendan Rodger’s side Leicester City and were seeming to take the 1-0 scoreline till the final whistle. But they ended up losing the match 1-3 after conceding three goals in the final minutes of the game.
The Reds are missing a host of stars to which veteran James Milner got added in the initial stages of the game itself. Defensive problems with untested partnerships and makeshift defenses have just added to their list of woes. The form of Liverpool starters like Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino has not helped the team either.
Liverpool will fight back like champions insists Salah.
Salah has expressed his concern about the poor string of results and has taken it to Twitter to reach out to the scousers. In a post that says,
It’s been a tough period for many reasons. We are champions and we will fight like champions, until the very end. We will not allow this season to be defined by the recent results we’ve had. That is my promise to all of you.”
The Reds have fallen too far behind in the title race now and although it is theoretically possible, practically it would not take anything less than a miracle to make it happen.
