Former Barcelona veteran and legend, Luis Suarez, has opened up more about his controversial exit from the Nou Camp. The Uruguayan was discarded by Ronald Koeman upon his arrival. According to the Dutchman, the forward was not going to be a part of his plans. The striker had felt heavily disrespected by such treatment by the club he serviced to the core.

The former Liverpool man had previously stated about the amount of disrespect he received from Barcelona. However, as of now he has opened up more about his controversial exit. To think a player like Suarez, who gave a lot for the Catalans, was not even given a proper send-off. Instead he was paid a year’s extra wages to terminate his contract which had another year left. Suarez recently made claims that the club’s main reason for throwing him out in such a manner that he was too old to play for the club. The Blaugranas may have a ton of regret as of now because the forward is scoring freely under Diego Simeone for Atletico Madrid as they are at the top of the La Liga table. Whereas the Catalans have not even found a replacement for their ex forward yet.

Luis Suarez felt ‘disrespected’ by the club that he did so much for

What really bothered me was when they told me that I was old and that I could no longer play at a high level, be up to [the task of fronting] a great team. That’s what I did not like.” (France Football, via Goal)

The Uruguayan went on to claim that he had done a lot for the club. He provided consistent statistics year after year and good performances too. Hence, he felt disrespected by such behaviour.

If I hadn’t done anything at a club like Barca for three or four seasons, I would have understood,” he said. “But, every year at Barca, I scored more than 20 goals per season. I have always had good statistics, just behind Leo (Messi).

“Today, we can see that it is not easy to play at Barca … A lot of players who signed there did not have the level that was expected of them. Me, I played for six years at Barca maintaining a certain level and living up to what was expected of me.” (via Goal)

The former Ajax man believes that he deserves respect for what he has done for the club. However, he did mention that this kind of situation is beyond his control. Suarez said that he cannot possibly do anything in a situation like this. The player is doing brilliantly for his age at the Wanda Metropolitano as of now. He may potentially win the La Liga with Diego Simeone’s men. This victory may prove Luis Suarez to be right and Barcelona to be on the wrong here.
