Manchester United is 2nd in the Premier League and 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City. United face City next month and the fixture will be the title decider. City is in fine form and won 18 consecutive games in all competitions. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has exceeded expectations this season but winning the title this season will be a long shot. The Red Devils can be a real force next season if they can fill some voids in their current squad. Here are the three players United can sign to improve their team and challenge for the title next season.
1. Ben Godfrey
Ben Godfrey was excellent for Norwich last season but could not save his side from getting relegated. The English center-back played very well against United in the FA Cup match but Harry Maguire’s late strike won the game for the Devils. The 23-year-old currently plays for Everton and he can be a long-term solution for Manchester United’s center-back problem. Godfrey can partner with Harry Maguire and the former’s pace will be very effective while covering. Godfrey can play a number of positions including center-back, right back, and left-back. The young defender will be a good buy for Ole’s side.
2. Douglas Luiz
Manchester United is looking for a defensive midfielder and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is a perfect fit for Ole’s side. Nemanja Matic is regressing and Scott Mctominay is better while playing as a box to box midfielder. The 22-year-old has been great for Villa since the project restart and his movement and flexibility will be vital during the transition. United needs to buy a proper defensive midfielder to sort out their issues in midfield.
3. Erling Braut Haaland
He is one of the best young players in the world and almost every top European club wants his signature. Manchester United’s attackers have been very wasteful this season in front of goal and cost their side many times. Erling Braut Haaland can be United’s number nine for the next 10 years and United can actually win the title next season. Ole gave Haaland his debut and the forward has been performing at the highest level currently.
