Manchester United traveled to London on Sunday to face rivals Chelsea and the game ended in a goalless draw. Both teams created few chances but the players failed to finish in front of the goal. Manchester United remains in 2nd place behind Manchester City while Chelsea failed to enter the top four this weekend. Chelsea has now failed to score against United in the last four games in the Premier League. Here are the three talking points from the game.
1. Bruno Fernandes failed to influence the game.
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes had a rare off-day against Chelsea. The Portugal international was nullified a few times by Frenchman N’golo Kante. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel started Kante instead of Jorginho and the selection paid off. Fernandes has been a key player for United since his arrival but his performance against Chelsea is something to forget. The midfielder’s decision-making was also poor and it cost the team few chances in the game.
2. Victor Lindelof with a solid performance.
Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has been subject to criticism after his performance against West Brom in the Premier League. The Swedish defender was solid against the London club and contained Olivier Giroud in the game. Lindelof made a couple of important interceptions and denied the Chelsea attackers to score. Lindelof was solid aerially too and it is always tough winning aerial duels against Giroud.
3. Concerns grow over Anthony Martial’s form.
Anthony Martial was on the bench against Chelsea and came on as a substitute for young Mason Greenwood. The Frenchman has been in bad form lately and that has not changed against the London club. Martial failed to influence the game once again and was contained pretty well by the Chelsea defenders. Martial’s form is a big concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
