Due to massive financial problems at the Nou Camp, Barcelona boss, Ronald Koeman has been unable to make new signings ever since he arrived. The Dutchman wanted several players to strengthen the squad at that point but he had to settle with what he had. Many players departed the club too in order to make wage cuts. Big names like Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Arthur Melo, and Arturo Vidal all made their exits from the club last season. The financial state of the club has not improved but the upcoming elections this month will see a new president be elected. Joan Laporta, who is deemed as the favorite to win the elections has made a ton of promises in terms of transfers.
Hence, here are 3 targets that Barcelona should land in the summer:
#1 Eric Garcia (Manchester City | Position: Centre-Back | Age: 20)
Manchester City‘s Eric Garcia has been a target for Ronald Koeman for a long time now. His contract with City is over this summer. As Barcelona are in need of fresh center-backs, the young ball-playing former La Masia product will be perfect for Barcelona. In a recent interview, Pep Guardiola stated that they have done everything they can to keep Eric Garcia at the Etihad but his heart is set at the Nou Camp. The former manager recently expressed that the 19-year-old will most probably play for the Catalans after the upcoming summer. Top-rated journalist Fabrizio Romano also officially stated that the young defender will be heading to the La Liga in the upcoming summer.
#2 Sergio Aguero (Manchester City | Position: Striker | Age: 32)
Another Manchester City player that Barcelona can get their hands on. The Argentine looks to be done with his time at the Etihad Stadium after so many years. It does not look like that the player will be agreeing to a new contract with Pep Guardiola. Ever since Luis Suarez’s controversial departure, the Catalans have struggled with forwards as they failed to replace the Uruguayan. The City legend can be a very easy short-term fix before they can get their hands on someone more long-term.
#3 Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool | Position: Midfielder | Age: 30)
The Liverpool midfielder has a great relationship with the Dutch manager and is known to play some fantastic attacking football under him. Their time together in the Netherlands national team saw Wijnaldum play like never before. The Liverpool servant’s contract is ending this summer and it does not look like the club is going to offer him a new one as the former Newcastle midfielder wants to move on. Barcelona would be a fantastic destination for him.
The financial problems are not going to go away soon at the Nou Camp. However, the team needs instant rebuild and fixes in order to compete at a high level. These players can help get the Catalans to that level without having to spend millions of euros.
