Manchester United traveled to Selhurst Park for their midweek game against Crystal Palace and the game ended 0-0. Manchester United have now failed to score in their last three games in all competitions and this is a genuine concern for the manager. United remains 2nd in the Premier League table above Leicester City and will face toppers Manchester City this weekend. Here are the three talking points from the game.
1. Luke Shaw is in form of his life.
Luke Shaw has been playing excellent football this season and the left-back has created the most chances among the defenders in Premier League. Shaw’s United career has been cursed with injuries but the full-back is back to his best this season. Shaw was very good against Palace and could have got one or two assists if the attackers were more clinical in front of the goal. Shaw will be hoping to make England’s Euro squad this year and his current form can make him a starter over Ben Chilwell. The 25-year-old has been one of the most improved players under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he has still age on his side to improve more.
2. Manchester United is missing Paul Pogba.
Bruno Fernandes once again failed to show up against a London club. Manchester United failed to break the deep block and Palace maintained a good defensive shape. The absence of Paul Pogba is clearly visible. Pogba creates chances while playing as the deep-lying playmaker and United lost that privilege after his injury and Fred fails to play the role. United’s form has also dipped after the Frenchman was sidelined.
3. Solid performance from Dean Henderson.
David De Gea was not in the squad due to personal issues and Dean Henderson started the game. Henderson was very vocal throughout the game and made a crucial save at the dying moments. The England goalkeeper has every potential to be United’s number one.
