Aston Villa and Jack Grealish have been absolutely phenomenal this season. The English superstar has been instrumental in Villa’s big performances this season and many elite clubs are after his signature. Former Premier League legend, Paul Scholes, believes that the midfielder could go on to be one of the best players in the world but for that to happen, the player must move to a bigger club where there is a need to win week in and week out.
Aston Villa are currently ninth on the Premier League table and it is largely due to Grealish. The 25-year-old versatile midfielder can play in multiple positions although Dean Smith prefers to play him primarily in the left-wing position. He has thrived in that position as well having already scored six goals and provided 12 assists in 22 league games. His performances dictate that he has been the most important player for the Claret and Blue this season. However, according to Scholes, the player must move to a top club to really show his worth.
Scholes believes Grealish needs bigger challenges and more pressure
The Manchester United legend in an interview with Optus Sport emphasized the lack of pressure Grealish has to face at Villa Park. According to Scholes, there is no need for the player to push himself any further at his club because he is already considered the best player and thus there is no pressure to perform consistently. In order to be called one of the best in the world, he has to play at one of the best teams in the world. He said in the interview,
There is no pressure on Villa. If he is at a top club then he needs to win every week. He needs to leave Villa to prove that [he is a top player]”.
“Jack Grealish is probably the same [as Paolo Di Canio]. It is all about him at Aston Villa. He needs to get out now to a club that need to win every week, there is pressure to deliver trophies.” – Source Goal
He went on to say that at a club like Manchester United or Manchester City or Liverpool, Grealish would really be put to the test as those clubs want to win it all the players must perform in a similar manner. Scholes then added that although he believes that the player is capable of performing at the top level, there will always be doubt until he does it.
The Red Devils were the ones who were really interested in the winger last season however, no deal materialized and the rumors did not turn into a reality. Villa are currently hoping to get at least 80 million pounds for the player which seems a bit high, however, should the player perform well in Euros, there is no reason why a top side would not be willing to pay such an amount for such a talented player.
