Chelsea has confirmed that Tammy Abraham and Thiago Silva will not feature in the upcoming match against Liverpool. Thomas Tuchel has a lot of choices at the moment as the club has an insane squad depth. Tammy was not selected in their last match against Manchester United and while that was tactical, tomorrow’s omission will be due to an injury. Silva has also been out for a significant period of time due to injury but the German coach is unwilling to rush him back to the field.
The London side has been performing quite well under the guidance of the former Paris Saint-Germain manager and they are yet to lose under his regime. Many players have also enjoyed their time under the new boss as they had lost their relationship with former manager, Frank Lampard. Players like Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all experienced a significant increase in their playing time however, some have lost their place in the team.
Chelsea have a massive squad depth at the moment and it is impossible to play everyone equally. Players Like Tammy, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Reece James, etc. seem to have lost their place in the squad. One player who has been affected the most is the English striker. He already has competition from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner and now he seems to have lost the faith of the manager. Although Tuchel is adamant that he has plans for the youngster, talks about bringing in Erling Haaland is only deteriorating Tammy’s confidence.
Chelsea boss explains why the top scorer won’t be playing in Anfield
The youth academy graduate is set to miss the all-important match against the Reds at Anfield but the German boss told the media that this was due to a minor ankle injury and not due to his form. He told the reporters in a press conference,
I assume he(Thiago Silva) is in training today but he is not at 100 per cent, so he will not join the squad for Liverpool. Tammy had some problems yesterday on the ankle again, so let’s see how this works out.” – Source Goal
He went on to say that he still likes the young striker but some decisions have to be made on a professional front. Tuchel also pointed out that the club has a huge squad that needs to be brought down to only 18 players (plus two goalkeepers). Thus he said there are times when a player is left out but he told fans to rest assured as they were still supporting Tammy. He said in the press conference,
It was not a punishment or a signal. It was just a choice from the alternatives, on which position, who starts, who could come from the bench. He lacks a little bit of luck, Tammy, not only in games but also in training.”
“Once the last touch comes back, and he’s fighting for it now, he will stay a player that we will push for.” – Source Goal
Abraham is still Chelsea’s top scorer so for many, it’s confusing as to why Tuchel is underestimating the youngster’s ability. However, the German is an experienced boss and he must have his reasons for making the player wait. Giroud will probably once again start for the Blues with Werner playing as a supporting striker. However, if things stay this way, Tammy could be on his way out of the club for good.
