Manchester City already have a very strong squad. It is visible through their unreal depth, quality, and consistency. However, Sergio Aguero may be leaving in the summer as his contract is up. Players like Benjamin Mendy do not look like a part of Pep Guardiola’s plans anymore. Over the last few years, legends like Vincent Kompany and David Silva made their exits from the team after years of service. While City did end up landing replacements such as Ruben Dias and David Silva they already have Phil Foden, it is still necessary to maintain consistency at a top-level. For that, there need to be signings. Recent reports have also suggested that the City board have reportedly given the green light to Pep in order to go after some big names this summer.

Hence, here are three transfer targets for Manchester City for the summer.

#1 Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund | Position: Forward | Age: 20)

The center forward can be a solution to City’s finishing problems. While Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling are quality footballers, they are still pretty poor at finishing off chances. Records show that Jesus and Sterling are at the top of the “big chances wasted” list in the Premier League from last season. With Sergio Aguero also not guaranteed to stay, Haaland might be the perfect solution. The 20-year-old forward can be lethal if he can link up well with Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian creates a ton of chances every game and it’s visible that players like Sterling, Jesus, and Mahrez are pretty casual about it and end up wasting them. Obviously, the former RB Salzburg man will not come cheap but that has never been a problem for Manchester City.

#2 Jose Gaya (Valencia | Position: Left-back | Age: 25)

The Citizens invest very well but few of their investments have gone haywire. Left-back Benjamin Mendy was brought in for 50 million pounds in the summer of 2017 and he has failed to justify that price tag. Regular and constant injuries seemed to completely shatter the player’s confidence and performances. Valencia left-back, Jose Gaya can be perfect under Pep Guardiola. While Oleksandr Zinchenko has given an ample amount of service at the back, he is originally an attacking midfielder. Joao Cancelo has also filled it at left-back multiple times this season and he’s been brilliant. Pep does require a classic left-back and the 25-year-old Spaniard can be a fantastic addition.

#3 Houssem Aouar (Olympic Lyon | Position: Midfielder | Age: 22)

The Olympic Lyon midfielder can also be another fantastic addition for City in the long term. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Fernandinho are still putting in service but they are not getting any younger. While Pep does have a good amount of midfielders in his team, the key to a good consistent team is the constant availability of a top replacement. Aouar has an outstanding set of passing skills and vision which can be very well utilized by the Catalan coach.
