There has been a huge improvement from Manchester United this season compared to the last two. However, it is not enough to win the league from where it stands as of now. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has definitely brought improvement as it is so far this season. United currently sit at the second position behind runaway leaders and rivals, Manchester City.
There have been setbacks for the Red Devils. They crashed out of the Champions League in the group stages, they were knocked out by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-finals in January. United look solid and good as a team but they are not quite there yet. For example, they drew four of their last five games in the Premier League. They also drew 0-0 against Sociedad in the second leg clash.
Obviously, there is a finishing problem upfront. If one watches the Red Devils in action, they can see that they are good on the ball, they keep possession and they create an ample amount of chances. Players like Bruno Fernandes provide a constant amount of work rate in order to grind out these chances. Forwards like Marcus Rashford, Antony Martial and Mason Greenwood have had very poor finishing abilities this season. While they do have a decent amount of statistics this season, the situation shows that they could have had more.
What is lacking at United for them to be the best?
Their recent tie away at Selhurst Park also ended up in a 0-0 draw. Their last week’s clash against Chelsea was also 0-0. They are not sitting back, they are keeping possession and creating chances. However, they have been poor at finishing the chances they do manage to grind out. With a new signing or some tactical changes, if they get this right, there is no stopping Manchester United from being a massive threat across all of Europe.
