Possible lineup for Manchester United against city rivals Manchester City in the Premier League clash on Sunday.
Manchester United will face table-toppers Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League. United is unbeaten away from home in the Premier League since losing to Liverpool at Anfield in January 2020. Here is the possible lineup for the Red Devils ahead of the Manchester derby.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should go for a back five and change his formation from the last game to a 5-3-2. Manchester City has been in fine form this season and the attackers have been clinical in front of the goal this season. The back five formation will increase the defensive width and help to contain the City wingers and the extra center-back will add more defensive stability.
Goalkeeper and the back five.
David De Gea has traveled to Spain for the birth of his child and Dean Henderson will once again start as the number one. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the fullback pair against City and Shaw has been in great form this season and Wan-Bissaka contained Raheem Sterling twice last season in the Premier League. The three center-back would be captain Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly, and Victor Lindelof.
The three-man midfield.
A double pivot of Fred and Scott Mctominay in midfield will allow Bruno Fernandes to play a more advanced role in the setup. Mctominay will be required to nullify Kevin De Bruyne and not allow him to create chances for the attackers. Fernandes can play as the trequartista in the setup and will make up the front three during the transition and will make an extra man in midfield during defending.
Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani should start ahead of Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial. Rashford and Cavani can drift wide at times and creating space for Fernandes in the middle. Cavani can also trouble the City defenders from Shaw’s crosses. The physical presence and work rate of Cavani will be very vital in the game.
