Former Chelsea midfielder, Oscar, informed the world that he wishes to return to the London side one more time before he hangs up his playing boots. The Brazilian star who played for the Blues from 2012 to 2016, is currently playing in the Chinese Super League but hopes to make a return to the Premier League and finish his career with the club that made him into a worldwide sensation.
The 29-year-old midfielder has a stable place in his current team, Shanghai Port, and even earns a lot more than some of Europe’s top superstars. The main reason for his move in 2017 was due to the huge amount of money that the Asian club was offering him. The Brazilian had a tough childhood and his early life poverty made him make the decision to move to China. Oscar’s father died when he was just three years old and he was raised by his mother who used to earn the bare minimum by selling clothes.
Oscar reveals his dreams of retiring at Chelsea
Thus the player wanted to secure enough money for his family even after he retired from professional football as he has seen both spectrums of life. However, now that he is nearing the end of his career, he has let everyone know that he still loves the London side and would love to finish his career with them. In a recent interview with talkSPORT, the midfielder opened up his emotions and spoke from his heart. He said,
I think about finishing at Chelsea because I had good times before at Chelsea.”
“Chelsea helped me a lot to improve and to do what I always dreamed [of], which was to play in the Champions League and they helped me to play in the World Cup and to win the Premier League.
“I have a lot of friends at Chelsea. If I have a chance to finish my career at Chelsea, it’s a dream for me. Of course, Chelsea don’t like to buy too many older players, which is normal because it’s a top team from Europe, but I will try my best to be fit to finish there.” – Source Goal
The player is aware of the Blues’ stringent rule when it comes to signing older players. They used to offer only one-year contracts to players over the age of 30 however, that rule has changed and they even offered Willian a two years contract but he wanted a three-year one. Oscar still wants to find a way back into the club and this shows how much the club means to him.
However, a return seems unlikely as the club have a lot of talent in the midfield in the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, and even Billy Gilmour. The Brazilian even acknowledged Mount’s performances for Chelsea and he thinks that the youngster is immensely talented. Thus while fans would like to see the player return to the club in the sake of nostalgia, he is sadly just not required at the club any longer.
