Chelsea center-back, Andreas Christensen, has found an all-new impressive form which has convinced the London side that the Danish player deserves a new contract. His current contract is running out in 2022 and thus they run the risk of losing him for free if they do not extend his contract. Apart from that, he has also been putting in some solid performances ever since Thomas Tuchel replaced the failing Frank Lampard. His form has really improved in a short period of time and he might become one of Chelsea’s regular starters.

The 24-year-old center-back from Denmark has been in the Blues’ system since he was just 16 years old however, he could never really find the consistency that is required from a defender. He would have some really good games sometimes but he would also be very prone to making silly mistakes due to the lack of concentration. However, this time around it looks like he has finally changed into a reliable player for the London side.

Tuchel started using the player after Thiago Silva sustained an injury and he has been a constant for the German manager as the Brazilian veteran is still not fit enough to play. Christensen took full advantage of the situation and showed his true potential to the manager in the absence of Silva. Tuchel has been impressed with the Danish player’s solid performance as well and in the Liverpool post-match press conference, he heavily praised the player. He told the reporters,

Andreas stepped in in the middle of the first half against Tottenham, which was a really tough thing to do, and from the first minute he’s been absolutely impressive,”

“He’s brave, strong in individual challenges, intelligent in the build-up and plays with a lot of confidence. I am absolutely happy with his performances and how he’s stepped up. He’s been a big part of our performances.” – Source Goal

Along with Christensen, Antonio Rudiger has also experienced a resurgence in form and he is one more player whose contract is running out in 2022. Chelsea have also been contemplating about bringing in a new center-back, and they even tried hard to acquire French star, Dayot Upamecano. That did not work out and they have a few more options to consider such as Niklas Sule and David Alaba.

However, should the current star at Stamford Bridge continue to play like this, the Blues will have no problem updating their contracts as it would save them a lot of money for other signings plus Christensen is only 24 so he could go on to have a bight and long future with the club.
