Manchester City suffered a shock derby loss against Manchester United last night. The Citizens were the clear favorites going into the game and due to their 21 wins in a row, no one could bet against them. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer somehow managed to pull off yet another famous victory over Pep Guardiola. The unbeaten run has been ended by their most fierce rivals and it is not something that the Sky Blues would have wanted however, the Spanish coach wants to move on and win the Premier League which is still very much in their grasp.
A penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a strike from Luke Shaw was enough to see off Guardiola’s men. Although City had plenty of the ball and created a lot of chances themselves, they were unable to beat Dean Henderson, who was solid in between the posts. This marks an end to the Sky Blues’ incredible form however, instead of thinking about the loss, the Spanish mastermind wants to move past it and just secure the league.
Pep Guardiola wants to focus on achieving all the 30 points available
In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, the former Barcelona manager said that his teams’ performance was commendable but the media will talk about them just because of their one loss. It was an incredible run and Guardiola fully supports his brilliant players. He said in the interview,
We will be the news because we lost but the news is 21 victories in a row.”

The Spanish coach proceeded to congratulate Manchester United on their fantastic win against a side that honestly looked unstoppable. However, the Red Devils put lots of pressure early into the match and their counterattacks were just sublime. Luke Shaw in particular played an incredible game and he could have very well had a few more goals. Anthony Martial also had the chance to finish off the game twice but he was unable to beat Ederson with his weak attempts.
Although it is a victory for United, the bigger picture is that they still trail their derby rivals by 11 points. With only 10 games to go, it does not seem likely that they will be able to close the gap. Guardiola has once again dominated the Premier League with his high pressing and quick passing style. Should the Blue team of Manchester let go of the trophy now, it will be truly a disastrous turn of events.
