Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were on an outstanding run of form. The players managed to go 21 games without losing a single one. They also were completely unbeaten and won all of their games in 2021 until they faced their city rivals. Manchester United paid a visit to the Etihad Stadium two days ago for a Premier League fixture. The Red Devils scored two goals and finally ended City’s winning run. A penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a solid finish from the brilliant Luke Shaw saw the City turn back to Red after January’s Carabao Cup tie.

Can Manchester City get back on track?

The sky blues looked to be shaken by the defeat as they were pretty used to winning recently. They face Southampton on Wednesday this week for a game at the Etihad. If City win this game, they will be back to their comfortable 14 point lead with having played an extra game. Obviously United will have the opportunity to close the gap if the Citizens are to increase it.

One would easily hail City for a win against Southampton. However, playing Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men even at home, City had won their game at St. Mary’s by one goal to nil. As for Southampton, they have not won a single Premier League game since they beat Liverpool a few months ago. The Saints beat Klopp’s men by 1 goal and have failed to secure a single win ever since. This can cause some pressure for Guardiola knowing that the Saints will be fully motivated. There will be a huge chance of an upset especially since Manchester City have dropped points recently.

If City do lose or draw the game, United will have the opportunity to close the gap with their game in hand. However, Guardiola’s men have been mentality monsters this season and it is definitely not going to be an easy visit for Southampton.
