Manchester United are now closer to the title than they have been in many years. The closest they came to winning one was last in the season of 2017/18. In that season, however, they finished 19 points behind champions and their city rivals, Manchester City. As of now, at this stage of the season, they are only 11 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men with many games still to go. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and his men are definitely not going to let their rivals run away with another league win so easily.

Manchester United to finally bring home their 21st title?

The Red Devils dropped points casually over the last two months or else they would have been toe to toe with City. While the sky blues went on a 21 game winning streak over the last two months, United just casually dropped points. Unwanted and untidy draws against West Brom, Everton, and Chelsea saw the men on the other side of the City, run away.

Pep and his men were 14 points clear of Ole’s men before last Sunday’s derby clash at the City of Manchester Stadium. However, goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw sealed a solid 2-0 derby win for the men in red. United closed the gap from 14 to 11 with many games still to go.

This can be looked at as a turning point this season for United. They can finally go on a good run of wins hoping that City falters. The men in blue host Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton at the Etihad tonight. This will give Pep and his men another opportunity to extend the gap to 14 points clear at the top.

As for Manchester United, they ended up stopping the City juggernaut, ending City’s 21 game winning streak in all competitions and 28 games unbeaten run. They can really capitalize on this situation and bring in a positive output on their other results.

Is it possible for United to go on and actually win the title this season?
