Changes in manager at Chelsea helped out quite a few players, including Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard was having a really rough time under the previous manager, Frank Lampard and he was dropped from the team after his horrible performance against West Brom in the third game of the league. Since then, he was never played by the English coach, and that left him very frustrated. There were even rumors linking him to an exit from the London side however, Alonso has finally come forward and shared his experience of being shunned from the team and how it felt to be reinstated on the playing eleven.

The 30-year-old was put back on the team when Thomas Tuchel took over as head coach for Chelsea. The German decided that he would play a different system than the one which Lampard was using. Instead of a traditional four at the back, Tuchel enjoys playing three at the back with two wing-backs. Alonso is perfect for this system and his best seasons were under Antonio Conte, who also played with the three at the back system. He made his presence felt the moment he stepped back on the field with a beautiful performance and a stunning goal.

Chelsea man is happy to be back on the team after an extended absence

In an interview with the club’s official website, the player revealed how he felt during the time when he was shunned from the team. He claimed that he felt useless to the team and was not happy because he could not help the team. The frustration was there but he never gave up and continued to train hard. He said,

Was it frustrating not playing? Yes, of course. I was not getting many chances. It was tough.”

“But this is football. Sometimes it is like this. All you can do is keep working hard, keep training and try to be ready for when the chance comes.

“When I am on the pitch it is easier. When I used to stay home it was not easy to help the team.”

He has managed to make a brilliant comeback however and hopes to continue his impressive form. Currently, the boss has an option of Ben Chilwell along with Alonso and he has been rotating both of them, giving them equal chances. It will be hard to choose between the two as both have been putting in good performances however, Chilwell is the one for the long run as Alonso does not have many years left to give.
