FC Barcelona were knocked out of the champions league this season after their round of 16 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. The Blaugrana were thrashed with 5 goals by the Parisian side in the course of the two-legged tie. Kylian Mbappe played a vital role in eliminating the Spanish giants as he ended up scoring 4 goals by the time the second leg came to a close. But his French counterpart, Antoine Griezmann failed to shine for the Catalans, yet again. Griezmann couldn’t find the net in either of the two ties against the french domestic champions, although he did manage to win a penalty just before halftime for his side.
Despite the defeat, the energy surrounding the Spanish club is positive, with Joan Laporta being elected as the president for the second time, noises coming out of the city suggest that positive reinforcements will be made in and around the club sooner than later. This, however, does put a big question mark on the world cup winner’s future.
Club Legend, Hristo Stoichkov has made clear his stance on the French forward, stating that whenever Griezmann takes the field, the Catalans are apparently playing with 10 players.
Whenever Griezmann is on the pitch, Barcelona are playing with ten players,” Stoichkov suggested in an interview with Sportsport.ba (via Marca)
“If they want to do something good in the long-term, they have to sell him.

The Bulgarian legend’s criticism cannot be taken lightly as the Frenchman certainly hasn’t lived up to the hype and the price. Barcelona paid 120 million to Atletico Madrid for the world cup winner’s services. The move hasn’t really been a success as the gaping void left by Neymar still echoes largely in the Camp Nou. Josep Maria Bartomeu, former president of the club made some huge money signings to fill up that space but unfortunately, Barcelona still very much misses the Brazilian.
This season, Griezmann has played for the front line in a total of 38 matches and has scored 12 goals and bagged 11 assists. Though Ronald Koeman, does trust the Frenchman, at the moment, he does seem like a shadow of his former self.
