Chelsea made a lot of good chances against Leeds United yesterday but were unable to find the back of the net. This was not expected by Thomas Tuchel who was sure that Kai Havertz was returning to his true form however, the German forward was unable to emulate the same form that he has been showing in the training grounds. The youngster was wasteful of his chances and he showed the same problem that has been haunting Timo Werner for the longest time, the inability to seal matches.
The London side once again dominated possession and had a lot more chances in front of the goal however, they came out of the match with a 0-0 draw. Leeds played quite well and had a few amazing chances themselves, which required Eduardo Mendy to pull out some big saves however, Chelsea will feel as if they let themselves down with the draw. The Blues once again played Havertz up top as a false nine. His performance against Everton secured him the position however, he was nowhere near as good as he was in the match against the Toffees.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man ended up missing a lot of chances and should have at least scored one goal. Tuchel revealed that he was disappointed with the German’s performance. He was more disappointed due to the fact that Havertz has been performing well in the training sessions but cannot produce the same form when it matters. He said in a post-match press conference,
It was pretty much the same role that he had against Everton.”
“He is comfortable in finishing in our attacks. He can clear play as a No.9, half striker or as a winger. These are his positions and today we used him again as a No.9.”
“I am happy but unfortunately he couldn’t finish like he does in training and how his talent allows him to finish because we had enough chances and created enough chances for him to be the decisive guy. He is comfortable in this position and I trust him in this position.”- Source Goal
The manager also said that he feels comfortable in playing Havertz in a more advanced position as the player has good speed and amazing control which allows him to twist and turn behind the defense. Tuchel also praised the attacker’s skills in the six-yard box but none of that could be seen against the West Yorkshire side.
Chelsea are still unbeaten under Tuchel’s reign however, they have not blown away any team either, winning mostly by a single goal margin. If the club wants to get back to the elite position they used to be, they will have to make use of the talented forwards that they have acquired. Players like Werner, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Havertz have a lot of talent but right now they are not being useful for the Blues as they need goals to win games.
