Manchester United faced West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League and the former sealed all three points courtesy of a Craig Dawson own goal. Manchester United had many chances in the game but poor finishing forced them to settle with a narrow win. Here are the three talking points from the game.
1. Solid performance from Harry Maguire.
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire was immense against the Hammers and preserved the clean sheet at home. Maguire made some crucial block and interceptions and was excellent in aerial duels. The English center-back took a lot of the workload and kept the West Ham attackers from finding the net. Maguire was good against Manchester City last week too and also kept a clean sheet at the Etihad. Maguire is often criticized for being error-prone but the captain showed a solid display in this game.
2. Bruno Fernandes with an inspiring performance.
Bruno Fernandes was unlucky not to get a goal or assist in the game but he played a very important part in the game for his side. The Portuguese Magnifico saw his best effort saved by the West Ham goalkeeper. United got their lead from Fernandes’ corner and Dawson will hope to forget the very moment and concentrate on the next game.
3. Mason Greenwood showed glimpses of his last season’s form.
Mason Greenwood was the most unlucky player on the pitch. The 19-year-old had hit the post twice In the game and should have scored at least one goal. Greenwood has not scored a goal in the Premier League since scoring against the Hammers in the away fixture but the young attacker dropped an immense performance and certainly showed glimpses of his last season’s form post restart.
Manchester United remain in 2nd spot behind Manchester City and are hoping to book their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. United has their UEFA Europa League 2nd leg at San Siro this week and the fans will be hoping to see some positive performance against AC Milan.
