Donny Van de Beek was one of football’s rising young midfielders during his time with Ajax. He was a part of the brilliant 2018/2019 Ajax squad which reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. But the 23-year-old hasn’t been able to reach his true potential since the time he moved to Manchester United in 2020. The Dutch playmaker has struggled to be an important part of the United squad due to fierce competition in the dressing room.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a wide variety of midfielders to chose from and to give a start. Notably, Scott Mctominay, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Juan Mata, and Paul Pogba. Van de Beek has had 13 outings in the premier league and 11 out of them were from the bench. He has also played 13 cup games but has only managed a single goal and a single assist. These figures don’t add up to the hype and noise his transfer had created in Old Trafford.

Frank de Boer on Van de Beek at Manchester United

Netherlands head coach, Frank De Boer has stated that Van de Beek isn’t happy at Manchester United but he isn’t panicking as well. Reports have also come that the dutch midfielder has requested a move away from Manchester United this transfer window. But again, the Dutch manager believes that in time the young midfielder is gonna thrive at united.

I spoke to Ajax and they said there’s no truth in it at all. He didn’t ask to speak to them,” the De Boer told talkSPORT.

“He’s just focusing on his recovery on his ankle, and it’s not true that he asked Man Utd to leave.”

“His agent also told me that of course he’s not happy that he’s not playing. He’s only had two starts under Solskjaer and that’s not what he hoped for when he joined Man Utd.”

“He’s not worried, of course, he wants to play every game. But he’s not worried that he can’t succeed.”

“He has to have a review after this year, asking where do I stand? Do I have a possibility to succeed here or not? Otherwise, I have to make a move.”

“We will see where he’s heading next year, maybe he stays at Man Utd or maybe another club is interesting for him.”

“But he’s not panicking at all, he told the manager he’s so happy at Man Utd because the club is one of the best in terms of how they treat him, he feels loved.”

However, the Manchester United boss has kept on defending his decision to not give Van de Beek minutes by stating that the youngster is making steady progress in training and soon will become an integral part of the Manchester United squad. Van de Beek has a five-year contract in his hand to make an impact in the United colors, however, if he fails to add a significant contribution to the team by the end of the campaign, his future might be somewhere else.
