Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s Manchester United have been hailed a lot this season. Many positive claims have been made about their improvement and away run in the Premier League. However, if a trophy is not achieved at the end of the season, the season cannot be considered a success.
Especially after spending so much money. The men in red were first hyped to win the Premier League but as of now, they sit 14 points behind rivals Manchester City having played one game less. They are still well and alive in the Europa League.
Manchester United fail to stay in a major competition
The Red Devils missed out on an opportunity to finally secure a trophy this season. They were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup yesterday. Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City went on to thump the Reds 3-1 at the King Power stadium. A massive show put on display by former Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho as the forward netted twice to help his side. Two goals from the young forward and a fantastic solo goal by Youri Tielemans saw the Foxes head into the semi-finals against Southampton.
Getting back to United, the league seems to be out of their reach as of now. They were knocked out of the League Cup in the semi-finals by rivals City. United also got knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages. They are currently only alive in the Europa League which is still a long ride. Last night they made an exit from the FA Cup too as they failed to reach the semi-finals.
The only realistic aim for the side as of now is the Europa League. If Manchester United really want to prove their improvement, then they have to land silverware. Of course, a European trophy will be a massive achievement. As of now it still looks like the Red Devils are far from the very best in Europe.
Can Manchester United land a trophy this season?
