Manchester United have never been the same since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson years ago. They have spent money, they have brought in top managers and they have had the best facilities. Yet, over the last ten years, they have not performed at the top level. The likes of Jose Mourinho, David Moyes, and Louis Van Gaal were not capable of exactly doing the job.
However, with the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Bruno Fernandes, the side has seen improvement. The side has turned more consistent and are doing much better than many other Premier League sides. However, they are still not at the very top. They are a top side with top players and yet they look very far away from being the best as of now.
What is the main problem at Manchester United?
The main problem at Old Trafford is consistency. Under Ole, one would witness the side do wonderful things like going on a massive unbeaten away streak in the league. However, they will also witness the players losing on crucial stages. Last night Manchester United headed out of the FA Cup after Leicester City beat them 3-1. The Red Devils failed to reach the semi-finals.
This is not a one-time occurrence. Under the Norwegian, the side has lost out on many crucial ties. Last year’s Carling Cup tie against City and Europa League semi-finals. This year’s league cup semi-finals and now the FA Cup quarters. The problem is their lack of consistency. The players like Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Paul Pogba are heavily hyped for their performances but these players don’t step up at the most important times.
As soon as this team is capable of holding out crucial ties and winning them, they have the potential to be a top side. The quality they have is top-notch.
Can Manchester United fix their problems?
