Manchester City have had a unique season so far. They did not have the best of starts to the season. In fact, it was City’s worst start to a season in 12 years or so. It was also the worst start to a league run for Pep Guardiola in his entire career.
However, the boys at the City of Manchester Stadium managed to turn things around. They went on a 21 game winning streak in all competitions after a draw with West Brom at the Etihad. The men in blue and white are now 14 points clear at the top ahead of second-placed Manchester united. They are also in the Carabao Cup finals, the FA cup semis, and the UEFA Champions League quarters. Win or not, this season has already been a massive success for City. This is solely due to a few pivotal players in the squad.
Three of the best Manchester City players so far this season
#3 Joao Cancelo
The Portuguese right-back has been one of the best players in Europe this season. If one watches him closely at City, one can understand that he hardly plays as a full back. The player is basically all over the pitch. Be it progressing attack in the midfield, defensive work at wing-back, and build-up play in the opponent’s box, Joao is there. He is arguably the most improved player from Pep’s recent signings.
The 26-year-old wing-back has been a massive pillar to City’s success this season. Creating chances, defensive work, immense work rate, and midfield shifts, Cancelo has done literally all of it in blue this season. The player who moved from club to club frequently and did not exactly have the best of starts at the Etihad looks finally settled and content. It is safe to say that he will be in the Premier League for quite a while now.
