The Premier League is always dominated by the ‘big six’ in the last two decades. Be it Manchester City or Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, or even Arsenal. Tottenham Hotspur are a part of the big six but they have not won the Premier League. However, in the last couple of seasons, a few teams are starting to come up and make a statement. These teams are sticking to philosophy and trying to break the big six dominance. Somehow, they have managed to do that this season. Spurs, Arsenal, and Liverpool have spent most of their time out of the top 4. If these certain teams were not putting any pressure they would have been closer to the top 4.
3 of the most underrated teams in the Premier League
#1 Leicester City -Brendan Rodgers has made the Foxes play some exquisite football. Just recently they knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup as they put up a beautiful display in the quarter-final tie. The team is well drilled and coached under the former Liverpool manager. The Foxes did win the league title in 2015/16 but they failed to stay consistent since then. However, ever since the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, the team has reached another level. The men in blue have been consistently in the top 4 almost throughout the season. It has been a very tough and tight season and yet with so many injuries, they have managed to stay in the top 4.This is a very dangerous and a very talented side. Even at such an old age, Jamie Vardy is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The boys at the King Power Stadium are capable of a lot more. Leicester being a part of the big six is not far away from the discussion if they keep this good run-up for years to come.
#2 Everton – Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton is the definition of potential. Talented players from the defense line to the front line, they have it all. A massively underrated topic for the Toffees is their squad depth. It is not talked about often. Talented attackers like Alexander Iwobi and Bernard are just waiting to come off the bench. Midfield rotations between, Sigurdsson, James Rodriguez, Allan, Andre Gomes, Tom Davis, and Doucoure. The side is literally dripping with options. Obviously, Ancelotti has brought in some levels this season. They have performed well but given the amount of money they have spent and the players that they have, they are capable of being in the top four. The side is capable of doing much better when the attack has players like Richarlison and Dominic Calvert Lewin. Goodison Park has seen some good squads, for example under David Moyes and Roberto Martinez and this squad is capable of making a lot of noise.
#3 West Ham United – It almost looks like West Ham may just finish in the top 4 this season. The Hammers have not spent any less money. They have had some pretty expensive players at their disposal. 40-50 million on a player is common for them in recent windows. However, this season under Moyes, they look solid. The players seem to understand each other and function well and together as a team. Led by Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in the midfield, these players have done very well. Jesse Lingard was signed recently in the January transfer window and he has found his form again. His link up with the likes of Antonio, Benrahma and Jared Bowen has been very creative. West Ham may land the top 4 this season may be not but they have put up a solid season of some really attractive football. This side will not stop playing anytime soon. It looks like a very good and solid long-term team. The players are looking like they are really enjoying their football. This West Ham team is not just here to fight for relegation but to achieve more.
