Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum looks all set to leave the Premier League champions, Liverpool, this summer after a 5-year stint that saw him win the Champions League and the Premier League title.

The Liverpool recruitment team headed by Michael Edwards will have to make sure they get an able replacement for the Dutch superstar who was an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s team since twenty-five million-pound move from Newcastle United.

Let’s look into 5 possible replacements for Wijnaldum at Liverpool, should he leave the club this summer:

#5 Renato Sanches (Age: 23 | Club: Lille OSC)

The 23-year-old announced himself to the world after his string of good performances with Portugal in the EURO 2016  saw him win the Young Player of the Tournament and subsequently the Golden boy in 2016 becoming the first Portuguese player to do so.
He, however, wasn’t able to build on his hype as he struggled to adapt following his move to Bayern Munich. The talented youngster failed to cement his place in the Bayern Munich midfield which had the likes of Xabi Alonso, Thiago Alcantara, Arturo Vidal, and James Rodriguez. He also had a loan spell at Swansea in the hope of getting regular game time and that didn’t work out as well.

His fortunes changed after he was sold to Lille for a reported price of 25 million pounds and has since come back to the old player he was back in 2016 when his dominant presence in the midfield at such a young age surprised everyone.
Renato has grown more as a player and shares many similar traits to that of Wijnaldum, his off the ball movement and ball shielding abilities makes him one of the best replacement for the outgoing Dutch midfielder. To add to that, the former Benfica man has an impressive range of passing as well, something that Wijnaldum lacks.

With Lille facing a financial crisis due to the pandemic, they will be forced to sell some of their prized assets this summer and Liverpool will hope to get him at a cut-price deal.
