The role of the full-backs in the modern day has changed a lot. Full-backs are a very crucial part of any team’s attacking play. A defensive solid and good crosser is an asset to any team. Here are the top five full-backs in Premier League this season.

#1. Joao Cancelo – Manchester City

Joao Cancelo has been a sensation this season. The Portuguese has played different positions this season including right-back, left-back, and as a midfielder too. Cancelo has been one of the best players for City this season and the full-back has been great while going forward. Cancelo had a tough time last season but he has been back to his very best this season. Cancelo has 1.7 chances created per game stats in the league this season.

#2. Lucas Digne – Everton

Everton is having a good season under Carlo Ancelotti and French defender Lucas Digne is playing very good football under the Italian boss. Digne has six assists in the league this season and has 1.5 chances created per game stats. Digne has been excellent with his crossing and it benefitted man in form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.



#3 Andrew Robertson – Liverpool

Liverpool may be having an underwhelming season but Scotland captain Andrew Robertson has been pretty good this season and arguably Liverpool’s best defender this season. The Scottish full-back has 5 assists and one goal in Premier League this season. Robertson has created 9 big chances this season and only Aaron Cresswell has created the same number of big chances among the defenders.

#4 James Justin – Leicester City

James Justin has been wonderful this season under Brendan Rodgers. Leicester City sold their star defender Ben Chilwell to Chelsea and Ricardo Pereira was sidelined for the majority of the season but Justin did a great shift in absence of the full-back.

#5 Luke Shaw – Manchester United

Luke Shaw is arguably the best left-back in Premier League this season. Shaw has created the most chances in the league among the defenders. Shaw is in form of his life and has 5 assists and one goal this season in the Premier League. It is pretty clear that star signing Alex Telles will find it very difficult to see his name in the first eleven.
