Barcelona suffered a huge blow to their title shot in their last match against Real Madrid. The Catalans were on a great path and they had closed the gap to Atletico Madrid in an impressive manner. However, with the loss in the El Classico, Barca allowed Madrid to overtake them and now they sit in the third position with only eight games left to play. The match had its fair share of controversies and the Catalans were not happy by the way the match ended. Not only did they feel that they had been cheated out of a penalty, but they also felt that more time should have been added on. Gerard Pique made this very clear to the referee at the end of the game.

Emotions were running high after the game as the loss meant that now the title is no longer in their hands and they will have to hope someone can defeat Real. While Ronald Koeman waited until the post-match interview to vent out his frustration, veteran defender, Pique, could not do that and confronted the referee right after the match ended. The player who was an unused substitute was seen confronting the referee. He said,

You gave us little extra time, and you’ve been off the field for a long time.” – Source Goal

He was then being pulled off by a Barca delegate but Pique wanted explanations from the referee and said,

Let me speak, let me speak.”

The loss means that Barcelona no longer can win the title unless the top two teams drop points. This is not the end of the world for the team, however, and they still have a chance to win the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao. A silverware at the end of the season will still be satisfactory however, the team will be disappointed as they worked hard to reach this position in the league and now all their hard work seems to have been wasted.
