It seems like the European Super League will be coming to a premature end before it could even be inaugurated properly. All the Premier League clubs have finally listened to their fans and have come to the conclusion that Super League will be detrimental for the individual clubs and as well as for football itself. Fans were extremely upset to hear that the teams that they support will be joining the elitist competition and they made their voices loud enough to be heard by the owners of the club who have taken the decision to pull out of the new league before it could even begin.
The first club to take the decision to pull out of the competition was none other than the London side, Chelsea F.C. The fans of the club gathered around Stamford Bridge before their match against Brighton and would not let the team bus enter the premises. Club legend Petr Cech had to beg with the fans to make way for the club and he even promised that he would speak to the higher-ups. True to his words, the next day the Chelsea website made an official statement stating that they would pull out from the competition as it was a mistake to even accept the invitation.
Football to remain the same as it was after PL clubs reject the ESL.
Following Chelsea, Manchester City were the next club to take the correct decision and pull out of the competition. Even City made an official announcement on their Twitter with a club statement, rectifying their mistake. Finally, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and even Arsenal announced that they would make a formal letter informing the ESL authorities that they would also be pulling out from the tournament. Liverpool’s owner, John W. Henry, even made a 2 minutes video formally apologizing to the fans for the mistake of accepting the invitation to the ESL.
With the top six clubs of the Premier League backing out from the new proposed league, it does not seem like the new tournament will go through. Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain‘s CEOs had already condemned the ESL and even Atletico Madrid made a statement saying that they would not be participating. It seems like Florentino Perez’s dream of having a super league will no longer become a reality and football as we know it will remain the same.
