As the world is going through this pandemic the billionaire clubs are trying to recover their money as justified by the European Super League president. European Super League chairman, Florentino said
“Many important clubs in Spain, Italy, and the UK wants to find a solution to a very bad financial situation. The only way is to play more competitive games. If instead of playing the CL, Super League helps the clubs to recover the lost earnings”. (Source: Fabrizio Romano twitter)
He specifically stated that Real Madrid are under huge debt and are not earning much in profits, the only way he thinks that they can have profits is by playing more competitive matches mid-week. The Super League is meant to save the clubs financially.
The Real Madrid president ensures the clubs who have signed up for the new league that they cannot be kicked out of the Champions League, as per the rule. And also stated that they will not be banned from any International competition if they join the Super League.
The attractive thing in football is playing between big clubs, the value for television increases and more income is generated. It’s not just the rich who want the Super League, we’re doing it to save football because it’s at a critical moment,” Perez said on the Spanish TV show El Chiringuito de Jugones.
“Football must evolve like everything in life. Football has to adapt to the times we live in now. Football is losing interest, TV rights are decreasing. We wanted to do the Super League, the pandemic has given us urgency: now we are all ruined in football”. (Source: Fabrizio Romano twitter)
Mr. Perez thinks that the format for the 2024 Champions League is absurd and said that the making of the Super League is not in his interests. He believes the UEFA is not as transparent as they claim to be.
Why aren’t UEFA and La Liga salaries public? Why haven’t salaries been reduced like everyone else during the pandemic? We need more transparency. We know the salary of LeBron James but we don’t know the salary of the UEFA president,” Perez said on the talk show.
The Super League chairman expressed that he will not be stopping for anybody. If they do not find a middle ground with UEFA, they will not withdraw and will proceed as planned since they want the Super League to start as soon as possible, which is targeted to be as early as August of this year.
Mr. Chairman claims that the clubs will be earning more than they used to earn in the Champions League. He strongly believes that when the top clubs become financially stronger, the smaller clubs can gain from it.
According to reports, the Super League will be focusing on utilizing just 55% of club incomes on salaries, transfers, and agent fees.
