Sergio Ramos missed out on the first leg of the blockbuster game against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. However, he is ready to captain his team to a victory in the second leg over the London side. Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that he has been training with the first team and could have even featured in the match against Osasuna. However, the manager has decided to leave him out of the match against Osasuna probably to keep him ready for the big match against the Blues.
Real Madrid boss confirms the return of Sergio Ramos ahead of crucial ties.
In a pre-match press conference ahead of their match in the La Liga, the manager of Los Blancos gave a crucial update on their team captain, Ramos. The 35-year-old has been out of action pretty much since the ending of January. He suffered from a torn meniscus and as soon as he came back, he suffered yet another muscle injury. His luck got from bad to worse as he was then infected with the Coronavirus and suffered yet another setback after he recovered from the virus. However, according to Zidane, he will be ready for the match against Chelsea. He told reporters,
[Ramos] is training with us and that means he’s able to play too”
“We’ll see what we do when we name the squad, but Sergio is fit and ready to play.” – Source Goal
He was ultimately left out of the squad for the match against Osasuna as Zidane does not want to rush his recovery. However, he will surely feature in the second leg of the Champions League. Madrid was the second-best team in the first leg and they could only maintain a draw courtesy of an absolutely stunning goal by Karim Benzema. Zidane knows that his team will need to drastically improve if they want to get past Thomas Tuchel‘s men at Stamford Bridge.
Having Ramos back in the team will be a great boost for the entire team especially after the injury of Dani Carvajal. Madrid will need their enigmatic captain to see them through to victory and it will not be an easy one either as they need to score one goal at least. Ramos’s presence will, however, bring solidity to the defense and they can sit back and defend after scoring the one goal which is required.
